Letters to the Editor

One of the most important forms of support you can give to the Issue 15 campaign is through Letters to the Editor. These letters are avidly read and are a perfect way to inform your neighbors and others in the community about your reasons for supporting Health & Human Services.

Some general guidelines for Letters to the Editor:

  • Newspapers will not publish unsigned letters, so make sure your letter has your:
    • Name
    • Daytime telephone number (most will contact you to confirm if they are going to publish your letter)
    • Address
    • Email address
  • Keep it short; fewer than 200 words is usually best.
  • Compelling letters usually pull in the reader with a startling fact, a visceral image or a strong statement. For example, "Health & Human Services saved my life" is certainly likely to get attention (be sure to back it up with facts and an explanation).
  • USE WHAT YOU KNOW: readers relate strongly to personal stories, so if you have something to share that illustrates the importance of Health & Human Services, add it to your letter.
  • In your letter, make sure to specifically ask for the reader's vote FOR Issue 15 on March 4th.
  • Feel free to include information you've learned about Issue 15 and Health & Human Services, but make sure to put it in your own words. Some basic information points are:
    • Issue 15 protects critical Health and Human Services for vulnerable children, seniors, seriously injured persons, and others in critical need.
    • The County and its partner agencies use these funds for programs and services throughout Cuyahoga County to help people who cannot afford to go anywhere else or who need emergency care.
    • Issue 15 protects critical emergency services at MetroHealth Medical Center, like Life Flight, the Severe Burn Treatment Center, Northeast Ohio's only Level 1 Trauma Center, stroke and crippling injury rehabilitation and poison control services.
    • Issue 15 provides protection and counseling for abused or neglected children, foster care and adoption services, and services to make sure young children get proper health care and are prepared for school.
    • Issue 15 helps seniors by providing home health care, home delivered meals, protection from exploitation and abuse by those who prey on the elderly and services that enable seniors to continue to live at home.
    • This is an issue our community can afford, but can't afford to do without. For just $2 more per month, we can protect critical services for thousands in our community who have nowhere else to turn.
    • On March 4th, we can protect a critical safety net for our community by voting FOR Issue 15.
